Hey, it’s Image’s birthday and you get 2 free comics to celebrate on Wednesday, Feb 1, 2017
Okay, rather than feature 40 comics that are listed below anyway, I’ll feature FEATURES of 2 comics that you may not notice unless you look carefully, which I have a feeling not many do. And it’s kind of a complicated story.
It’s birthday week for 2 businesses that profoundly affected the comics business. It was 35 years ago that Diamond Distribution became one of about 6-8 mostly local distributors of Direct Sale comics that many say revived a Comic Book industry that was in danger of dying. (Later that year in July, I started working for their competition, Capital City Distribution, here in the Bay Area, where I did my part. ) Fast forward about 14 years, and it all fell apart when Marvel’s CEO…..well, that’s another story. Fast forward to today and Diamond is the only comic distributor in the U.S., and really, the world.
And it was 25 years ago this week that a half-dozen creators bolted out Marvel’s door and formed Image comics, just in time to ride the speculative bubble that saw Valiant and Dark Horse jump in, saw DC decide to kill Superman and break all sales records, and started the erosion of Marvel’s dominance, causing its CEO to react a few years later by…but, that’s the same other story.) Anyhoo, Image is celebrating their 25th birthday by pricing Walking Dead #163 at 25 cents, and we’re jumping on the bandwagon by giving it away for FREE! (Limit 1 to a customer, but you can buy more at a quarter each!) Coincidentally, Dynamite priced today’s Vampirella #0 at 25 cents, also, so we decided to give you the same deal on her!
